The question at the curb
Is lofi music free?
Lofi is a sound, not a licence. A lofi song is free to use only when its artist says so. Every song in this box comes with that permission in writing: CC BY 4.0.
Three kinds of “free lofi”
Streaming services and 24/7 streams. Fine for your ears, not for your videos.
A licence like CC BY 4.0 lets you put it in videos and streams. That’s everything here.
No owner, no conditions. Rare for new music.
A quick checklist
- The licence is named next to the song.
- The places you can use it are spelled out.
- You can download a real file, not just stream.
- You know the exact credit line to paste.
Questions
Is lofi music free to use?
Not automatically. Lofi is a genre, and most lofi on streaming services is copyrighted like any other music. It’s free to use only when the artist gives a licence that allows it, like the CC BY 4.0 licence on every song here.
Where can I download free lofi music?
Here: every song has a direct MP3 link and every tape has an M3U playlist, with no account. Other places with free lofi usually ask you to check each track’s licence one by one.
Can I use free lofi on YouTube without a copyright claim?
Use music whose licence names YouTube and that nobody has registered with Content ID. Purrple Cat Self Releases are free to use with credit on YouTube, and uploading them to streaming services, which causes false claims, isn’t allowed.
What does CC BY 4.0 mean?
Creative Commons Attribution 4.0: you can use, share and adapt the music for free, as long as you credit the artist. Here the credit is: Music by Purrple Cat (purrplecat.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
Is free lofi the same as royalty free or copyright free?
No. Free here means no cost. The music still has an owner and a licence. Copyright free usually means public domain, which this isn’t.
